Loch Lomond expeditions

I love taking people up to Loch Lomond for short expeditions lasting 3 to 5 days. Scotland has more relaxed laws around wild camping than England so its the perfect place to go to be able to separate yourself from the many intrusions of the 21st century and spend a bit of time in the natural world. Loch Lomond is an especially great choice as the islands on the Loch allow you to hop from one to another and you are often the only people there as the sun goes down. Padding a canoe on the water and taking in the breath taking scenery during the day and learning to set a camp and cooking over drift wood makes the whole experience something to treasure

Siting your camp and your hammock is a skill you will learn, not just to make the best of the natural shelter offered but also to get the best views.

Evening entertainment is sometimes as simple as skimming stones but infinitly satisfying.

Meet the locals

With many of the islands previously used by crofters and some still occupied you get to see a variety of wildlife both small and large.

More locals

One of the islands on the loch has a very small campsite with an attached toilet block clad in boards. If stopping for a comfort break you may hear lots of squeaking, as it is home to a number of bats.

Firelighting

Each morning and evening we get a fire going for tea, coffee and food. You'll learn a number of ways to make this happen during the trip.

Better than the view from your office!

Scotland embodies 'epic' by the bucket load and the water/hills/sky combination over the loch really delivers in this respect.

Even more locals

One of the islands used to be an old royal hunting ground which was stocked with deer and many of thier descendants are still there, but did you know they can swim?

Camp

Each night we camp on a different island and assess the ground for the best location, it's a great way to learn the skills involved in picking just the right spot.

What feeds Loch Lomond?

All around the loch are rivers and streams feeding into it so paddling at the shoreline can give you a unique view of them.

Wake up call

Hammock camping gives you a chance to realign your natural sleep cycle (your circadian rhythm) and is a lot more soothing to wake to than your alarm clock.

Hammocks rule!

A great thing about hammocks is that you don't need flat, level, clear ground to pitch them, unlike with a tent.

There is little more satisfying than sitting round a fire you lit on an island you paddled to just taking it all in or chatting with those with you.
